The AAP is an established medical association without an axe to grind. We should disregard junk science from fringe groups masquerading as legitimate medical organizations.
Anti-gay activists sometimes cite the American College of Pediatricians, hoping its impressive-sounding name will give it apparent legitimacy. Unlike the American Association of Pediatrics, founded in 1930 and with more than 60,000 members, the American College of Pediatricians is a tiny fringe group of approximately 60, founded in 2002 in response to the AAP finding no significant harm to children of lesbian and gay parents. According to Mike Airhart: \"The “American College of Pediatricians” screens its membership according to a pro-life philosophy spelled out on its “Core Values” page and an anti-gay philosophy spelled out [on its website].... The ACP’s family resources page links primarily to religious-right organizations. In contrast to the scientific approach of the AAP, ACP employs what it considers a predetermined “moral” filter to pediatrics.\"|~|#|^|!|http://www.aclu.org/lgbt-rights_hiv-aids/re-gill-about-american-college-pediatricians|~|#|^|!|http://holybulliesandheadlessmonsters.bl
