A. Dean Byrd (Ph.D. from Brigham Young University) is president of NARTH, an organization that advocates scientifically discredited \"conversion\" or \"reparative\" therapy. NARTH's leaders disagree with the longstanding consensus of the behavioral and social sciences and the health and mental health professions that homosexuality is normal, positive, and not a mental disorder. Children do better with a married mother and father COMPARED TO WHAT? A single parent. Studies evaluating children of same-sex COUPLES show that they are at least as psychologically well-adjusted as children of opposite-sex couples, and may even show more empathy.
